Pax Christi/Baltimore Activities/Events Since 1985 |
Pax Christi/Baltimore has been a lead or initiating organization in
conferences and events in the Baltimore area on numerous peace and justice
issues. Among them is participation in the Planning Committee for the annual
Archdiocesan Social Ministry Convocation (CHD), presented each year on
the first Saturday in March.
In 2004, Pax Christi/Baltimore presented a unique series of “follow
up” discussion sessions at three locations in the Archdiocese in a single
weekend, to provide an opportunity for parish peace and justice committee
members to review ways to further energize their parishes for prayer and
action on peace and justice issues. In April 2005, Pax Christi was part
of the revised version of that concept, “Continuing Our Journey,” co-sponsored
byCHD, the P. Francis Murphy Justice & Peace Initiative, and Beyond
the Boundaries.
Special Liturgies
Since the Summer of 2004, Pax Christi/Baltimore has presented a special
monthly “Service of Peace” generally on the third Saturday of each month,
at the Newman Center in Towson University. This unique ecumenical eucharistic
prayer service combines some traditional liturgical elements with innovative
approaches for a new and participatory experience focusing on collaboration,
connection, and commitment to peace in the world.
Contact
with Archdiocesan Offices and Other Groups
While not an Archdiocesan organization, the Chapter maintains contact
with Archdiocesan offices including Office of Youth Ministry, Catholic
Charities Office of Social Concern/Parish Relations, and Maryland Catholic
Conference. Pax Christi contacts the offices of the Archbishop (Cardinal’s
office) and of the Auxiliary Bishops, as appropriate, on particular issues.
The Chapter frequently collaborates with other groups such as the Maryland
United for Peace and Justice, American Friends Service Committee, the P.
Francis Murphy Justice & Peace Initiative, the Catholic Labor Support
Committee, Baltimore Faith Response Coalition, Maryland Coalition Against
State Executions (MD CASE), Viva House and Jonah House.
